True Wisdom

“There was once a small city with only a few people in it. And a powerful king came against it, surrounded it and built huge siege works against it” (Ecclesiastes 9:14)

In Israel’s own recent history, one can see those words of King Solomon, the Preacher being lived out. The Six-Day War took place between 5th and 10thJune 1967. Israel believed that it was only a matter of time before the united Arab states co-ordinated a massive attack on Israel. Rather than wait to be attacked, Israel launched a huge military campaign against her enemies. According to defence analysts, it would be an uneven match. The Israel Defence Forces consisted of 275,000 troops, compared to the 456,000 soldiers of the combined Iraqi, Syrian, Jordanian and Egyptian armies. The Arab forces boasted of more than double the amount of tanks, and close to four times the amount of combat aircraft. However, on the first day of the war, Israel’s air strikes had already destroyed two-thirds of the Syrian Air Force, more than 300 Egyptian aircraft, and most of Royal Jordanian Air Force. The war ended in a victory that included the capture by Israel of the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank, Old City of Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights. While the Six-Day War was won by the wisdom of the Israel’s military strategists, Israel was convinced that it was the supernatural hand of God in determining events.

“…that they may have the full riches of complete understanding,
in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ,
in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge”
(Colossians 2:2b-3).

“For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Proverbs 2:6).

The above Bible verses tell us that all wisdom and knowledge are in Christ. Moreover, the LORD is willing to give this wisdom. Wisdom refers to actions that are controlled by the revelation of God. The Apostle Paul says in Romans 12:2a:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by
the renewing of your mind.”

When you become a Christian, you are made completely new – a new creation. You have the capacity to understand the teaching of truths found in the Bible and receive wisdom from God. You need to daily feed on the true wisdom of the Bible. You need to look at what you are going through in your daily lives, not from the standpoint of what seems right, but on what is wise and right according to the Bible. Proverbs 3:5, 6 gives us some clear guidance from King Solomon on true wisdom for all of us:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
